Expedition Everest Challenge Scavenger Hunt
After the 5K and the obstacle course we were given a book with 4 clues and sent through Disney’s Animal Kingdom in search of the correct answers. It took us nearly 40 minutes, but we had a lot of fun. We were some of the last finishers to receive a medal before the course was closed due to weather. Most of the rides were also closed, but we stayed around long enough to get a chance to ride Expedition Everest. It was every bit as good as I remembered from last year.

Walking the dogs
Yesterday, I wore the Garmin for most of my walks with the dogs, and was shocked by the numbers. I spent nearly 3.5 hours walking them and traveled 7.37 miles. Of the 3.5 hours, a good amount was spent standing around while they sniffed around to see who had been there before them. It took nearly an hour to cover the first mile. On the other hand, I had no idea all of those little walks would add up to so much. There was a 4 mile walk with Friday, where we walked at about a 16:00 minute mile pace in between sniffing. On Sundays we usually go for 5 or 6 miles. During the week we may only go 2 or 3, but 5 miles is probably my minimum. This explains why, despite some really bad eating habits of late, I’ve actually lost weight. Imagine what I could do if I could kick the M&M habit!

Getting back on my feet
I’ve had some walks and even a couple jogs over the last few months, but nothing consistent, and without the use of tracking technology. I’m trying to prepare my poor old body for the punishment my husband has in mind for later this year. Since a walk across the room can be punishment enough, I don’t want to think about what 26.2 miles will feel like. The good news is I only have to put up with that nonsense 2 more times, and then my obligation is met.

Walking it off
Without Jasmine following me around and needing me to attend to her, I’m kind of like the people in the commercials who can’t figure out how to eat or drive without a cigarette. In my case, I just work non-stop. No more getting up to take walk breaks. I have been trying to get out for a while in the evening. I got out for an hour tonight. It was a nice evening and I admired the sunset.
